About Bruce Hoof Law

From his offices in Durham, Bruce Hoof has practiced law throughout North Carolina for more that 40 years. Over the course of that time, he has come to be recognized within the legal profession as a highly skilled, creative and successful civil litigator. That esteem is reflected by his annually receiving from Martindale- Hubbell, the preeminent peer-rated directory of American lawyers, the highest possible rating [“AV”] it awards.

Bruce received his undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and in the top 5% of his class. He selected Vanderbilt’s Law School after he was awarded its prestigious Patrick Wilson Scholarship.

Practice Areas

Bruce’s extensive experience and legal acumen have enabled him to become a highly successful civil litigation lawyer. His law practice began as an insurance defense attorney where Bruce’s early and consistent success led to his also being retained in a wide variety of other civil matters. Today his civil litigation practice is concentrated in two principal areas, a continued focus on insurance defense and the representation of personal injury claimants.

INSURANCE DEFENSE

Bruce has advised and represented liability insurance carriers throughout North Carolina and in the widest variety of proceedings, from arguing before the North Carolina Supreme Court to taking examinations under oath.

CIVIL LITIGATION

Bruce has litigated civil actions at every level of North Carolina’s judicial system and in every Federal District Court in the state. He has represented clients throughout the state in courtrooms from Manteo to Asheville.

PERSONAL INJURY

Bruce’s success litigating insurance defense cases led to his increasingly being asked to represent personal injury claimants, and over the course of time, that developed into a significant percentage of his practice.
